Be a PRO
AAMSE Board President and MMS CEO Clint Cummins
Most who have known me for a while know that I am a sucker for an acronym, pun, alliteration, and any cheesy and memorable phrase I can quote or create.
So, congrats and condolences, AAMSE members. I have created another one – one that is hopefully relevant, proves to be true, and reflects what the AAMSE Board hopes to deliver to you this year and beyond.
Occasionally, I share the encouraging phrase “Be a Pro” with our staff at Memphis Medical Society. Its intent is to reinforce how we should be accountable and of service to our members and to each other. I am a sports enthusiast and volunteer coach, so it is a phrase we hear uttered in that space regularly.
How can that phrase apply to how we (the AAMSE Board and Staff) are of service and accountable to our members? I hope we can be described as PROs (Proactive, Resourceful, and Organized) now and throughout my term as President. This sentiment will drive our discussion at our only in-person Board meeting of the year on September 21st.
How are we currently being Proactive? We are actively making leadership appointments to our SIGs, our Annual Conference Planning Committee, and will ultimately assign board members to various jobs and initiatives throughout the year. I would love to hear from members – how can we be more Proactive for you?
Being a medical society executive mandates that one be Resourceful. I am confident in saying that each of you are finding ways to do more with less as part of your daily job. From an AAMSE standpoint, how can we be more Resourceful to you? An easy win that we will tackle this year is to address the information and organization of the AAMSE website. Our website has limitations, obviously, but we could certainly make it more resourceful for our members and make it more…
Organized. Yep, you guessed it! Several of you have reached out to me, and I will be working with the Board and Katie Gruber on how to make our website more organized and resourceful to AAMSE members and stakeholders. It is also my goal to be more organized with how we deliver Board communication to members. That will start with consistency. At a minimum, we will deliver that through this Hotline communication.
Forgive my simplicity, but it is reflective of where I believe AAMSE’s focus needs to be: being brilliant at the basics. For me, that starts with basic, consistent communication that includes deliverables from your Board to you.
