Our Three Pillars

Physician Wellbeing

Physician burnout is a serious health concern, and a somewhat overused term. Some research suggests that as many as 63% of physicians say they have felt a sense of burnout. This not only can harm the physician, but also their patients. The residual effects on our healthcare system are immeasurable. We also know that threats to a physician’s professional and social lives can be impacted due to hesitation in seeking care.

The Memphis Medical Foundation offers Thrive, a physician wellness initiative. Through Thrive, a physician can call or text a confidential “hotline” (901-286-3110), and be connected with a licensed psychologist at not cost. The Foundation covers the expenses of up to six sessions. Care can also be accessed by filling out this HIPAA-compliant form

Thrive’s mission is to provide a resource for the physician community to confidentially seek counseling in a safe, convenient environment without judgement.

Physicians have a calling to take care of patients, and it is our turn to take care of them. If you are interested in donating to Thrive to help cover physicians’ appointments, click here.

Public Health

The Memphis Medical Foundation is the proud partner of Project Access West Tennessee (PAWT). This program works to address healthcare disparities in Memphis and West Tennessee by providing donated specialty care to community members without insurance. If you are interested in volunteering as a physician, visit the Project Access West Tennessee website here. If you are interested in donating to the Foundation to support patients with additional needs, such as prescriptions, transportation, etc., click here

Empowering the Next Generation

Across multiple programs and organizations, the Memphis Medical Society and Memphis Medical Foundation host events and institutes to empower the next generation of medicine.

Money and Medicine is a program dedicated to teaching future physicians the things they don’t learn in medical school, like how to review contracts, how to buy a home, open a private practice and more.

Pizza and Politics is dedicated to teaching future physicians why organized medicine and advocacy are important to their practice of medicine and their patients. We invite local lawmakers and dedicated physicians to discuss how to be an engaged physician.

The Mid-South Healthcare Leadership Institute (MHLI) is the newest program to the area. MHLI is a full-scale leadership program for local practice administrator to hone in on their leadership skills as it pertains to the field of healthcare. The goal of MHLI is to empower future leaders and strengthen the local medical community.
