For the past 25 years, George Hernandez has led Campbell Clinic, initially as CFO and, since 2010, as the organization’s CEO. A planned executive leadership succession was announced today and will become effective January 1, 2021.
“George has been instrumental in so many strategic initiatives such as financing and construction of the DeSoto office, the Surgery Center in Germantown as well as the design and construction of our new Wolf River facility,” says Dr. Frederick Azar, Chief of Staff for Campbell Clinic. “Everyone who knows George is aware that he is a tireless worker who pays special attention to the details. We are grateful for his constant dedication to the patients, employees, and physicians of Campbell Clinic.”
Daniel Shumate, who has served as Campbell Clinic’s CFO since 2010, has been named as CEO, effective following Hernandez’s retirement.Recruitment for Shumate’s successor as CFO will commence immediately.
“As we look to the future, it is time for the next generation of Campbell Clinic leadership to build on our legacy of orthopaedic excellence,” says Hernandez. “I am confident that Daniel and the administrative and physician leadership team will drive the clinic to even greater heights in the coming decades and beyond.”
When Hernandez began his career with Campbell Clinic in 1995, revenues were $30 million and, through organic growth and a broadened scope of facilities and services, revenues in 2019 exceeded $300 million. Outside of his duties at Campbell Clinic, Hernandez, a 34-year resident of Germantown, serves on the City of Germantown’s Planning Commission and has completed his 10 th year as a Reserve Officer with the Germantown Police Department.
“It has been an honor and the privilege of a lifetime to work for and lead Campbell Clinic for the past quarter century,” Hernandez notes. “I am incredibly humbled by the trust and confidence from the patient community at large in selecting Campbell Clinic for their orthopaedic and other musculoskeletal needs, and am proud to stand in service with our nearly 600 dedicated and employees, 50 of whom are physicians.”
