Congress is again considering a 2.8% cut to Medicare reimbursement rates, further reducing physician pay that has already not kept up with the rate of inflation. The last thing Tennessee doctors need is reduced reimbursement when the cost of operating a practice continues to rise. If allowed to go into effect, access to care for aging Tennesseans would be needlessly threatened.
The AMA has prioritized Medicare payment reform for the last two years. A resolution (H.R. 2474) has been introduced in Congress to mitigate reimbursement cuts by tying Medicare fees to the Medicare Economic Index. TMA is asking members to contact their congressional representatives to urge them to co-sponsor this resolution.
