The 2025 Ingram Institute for Physician Leadership wrapped up earlier this summer with 17 new graduates, among them Memphis Medical Society Member and Director-at-Large Melissa Barnhart, M.D., Medical Director at Church Health.
“I really appreciate the Memphis Medical Society sponsorship that allowed me to attend,” said Dr. Barnhart. “It was absolutely invaluable training and I feel like I learned so much. I’m excited to see how it influences my work.”
A large cohort of Tennessee Medical Association physician members from across the state also completed the TMA’s 2025 Leadership Lab and Leadership Immersion program classes.

The Ingram Institute is comprised of two professional leadership development programs which offer Tennessee physicians the opportunity to develop into well-rounded leaders. The Leadership Immersion program offers physicians foundational leadership training and crucial skills development in a retreat-like environment. They finish this program equipped to lead in their clinical practice and in their community and receive a Certification in Physician Leadership. The Leadership Lab program teaches physicians the skills needed to lead change and performance improvement through a real-world project. Over just seven months, they develop core competencies in improving care processes, developing a culture of accountability, and successfully leading change initiatives. Graduates of the Lab receive a Certification in Healthcare Change Management, signifying their status as a physician leader in Tennessee.
Funding for the Ingram Institute comes from the Tennessee Foundation for Quality Patient Healthcare (TFQPH), TMA’s certified 501(c)3 not-for-profit foundation. TFQPH was established in 2005 to create and administer programs to improve the quality of health care delivered in Tennessee and offer programs that directly impact the physician-patient relationship.
