Dorothy Louise Snider Surles created the Dorothy Snider Foundation, which is operated by Memphis Medical Society, in her will in 1969, with proceeds benefitting Arkansas and Tennessee students studying medicine, law, theology, business, natural sciences, and “scientific fields,” as she put it. Grants also can be made for research.
The grants are administered through a trustee and six-member board, now known as the DSF Distribution Committee. Each year, the Distribution Committee provides over $250,000 in scholarships, mostly to medical and nursing students.
MMS CEO Clint Cummins and Membership Administration Manager Rana Ragland attended the 2026 Pinning Ceremony in Little Rock this week.
“Meeting these Dorothy Snider Foundation scholarship recipients was a highlight for me,” said Rana. These students represent the future of healthcare in Arkansas and Tennessee, and seeing the direct, positive impact of this support firsthand makes me incredibly proud.”
