Prior Authorization will be one of the top issues for MMS and and TMA in the next legislative session. TMA is seeking information from physician members regarding their experiences obtaining prior authorizations for patients. We are also soliciting feedback from practices regarding the services and drugs for which physicians receive approval 90 percent or more of the time. TMA spearheaded the Prior Authorization workgroup between physicians and insurance plans in 2020. Physicians, medical practice executives and insurance plans have met monthly to work toward solutions to improve the prior authorization process.
