Volunteers needed to vaccinate children

Colleagues,

Le Bonheur and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) are working with the City of Memphis to set up COVID-19 vaccination sites for children ages 5 to 11 years. The city will not provide vaccines to children in this age group at their existing drive-through sites.

Would you volunteer to help the children in our city get vaccinated against COVID-19?

Vaccine clinics will take place:

  • Friday, Nov. 12 from 1 – 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Friday, Nov. 19 from 1 – 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 20 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.

At two locations:

  • Hickory Hill Community Center (3910 Ridgeway Rd.)
  • Glenview Community Center (1141 S. Barksdale St.).

We need any providers who are trained to give intramuscular injections and are comfortable with children (i.e., UTHSC faculty, residents, students, nurses/NPs, PAs, community physicians) to volunteer to administer vaccines at each site for each day. We also need clinical staff to observe children post-vaccine and supervise medical and pharmacy students.

Volunteer job descriptions:

  • Vaccine administrator – 15 spots each location
    • Medically-trained personnel in administering vaccines to children. Will receive additional process training onsite at beginning of shift.
  • Vaccine observer – 4 spots each location
    • Medically-trained personnel to observe children post-vaccine.
  • Support personnel
    • Non-clinical staff to assist with registration and various duties as assigned

Volunteer:

Please feel free to share this with other practitioners outside UTHSC and Le Bonheur who are trained and comfortable giving shots to children. They can use the Le Bonheur sign up code.

Any time you can donate is needed. Le Bonheur Child Life and Community and School Health will also be present to support. We are working through a plan with our partners to provide access to second doses.

This is our chance to help kids in our community get vaccinated and advocate for the safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine. Please save the date. The children of our community thank you for your help!

Sincerely,
