G. Scott Morris, MD, MDiv, is a board-certified family physician and ordained elder in the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church who has spent nearly four decades advancing access to care for the working uninsured in Memphis. Guided by both his medical training and his ministry, Dr. Morris founded and has served as founder and chief executive officer of Church Health since 1987, building a nationally recognized model that integrates primary care, dentistry, behavioral health, wellness, and faith-based support.
Dr. Morris earned a BA from the University of Virginia, an MDiv from Yale University, and an MD from Emory University, completing residency training at the Medical College of Virginia’s Chesterfield Family Practice Center. He has maintained board certification in family medicine since 1986 with multiple recertifications, and he has been licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee since 1986. His hospital appointments have included Regional Medical Center at Memphis, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare Systems, and Baptist Memorial Hospital.
A longtime leader within organized medicine, Dr. Morris is affiliated with the Memphis Medical Society, Tennessee Medical Society, and has served as chair of its Ethics Committee. His leadership has been recognized by peers across the state, including the Tennessee Medical Association’s Distinguished Physician Award, and through his longstanding service within the Memphis Medical Society, where he chaired the Ethics Committee.
