MMS Hall of Fame 2026: Owen Tabor, Sr., M.D.

Dr. Owen Britt Tabor Sr. is a Memphis-based orthopedic surgeon whose career reflects a commitment to broad-based, patient-centered musculoskeletal care. In 1998, Dr. Tabor founded Tabor Orthopedics, with the goal of providing comprehensive orthopedic services through a generalist model that emphasized continuity of care and clinical versatility.

Under Dr. Tabor’s leadership, the practice grew to include eight physicians who collectively covered a wide range of orthopedic conditions while maintaining a general orthopedic approach. This model allowed patients to receive coordinated care for multiple musculoskeletal issues from a single physician, reducing fragmentation and improving long-term outcomes. At a time when subspecialization was accelerating across orthopedics, Dr. Tabor’s vision reinforced the value of the well-rounded orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Tabor’s clinical expertise spans arthroscopy, fracture care, joint replacement, spine conditions, sports medicine, and degenerative joint disease, among other areas. His scope of practice included treatment of conditions affecting the knee, spine, hand and wrist, and shoulder, as well as surgical and non-surgical management of osteoarthritis and sports-related injuries.

He completed his medical education at Duke University School of Medicine and his orthopedic residency at Campbell Clinic. Through decades of practice, Dr. Tabor built a reputation for technical skill, sound judgment, and dedication to accessible orthopedic care for patients across the Memphis region.
