MMS Hall of Fame 2026: Indu Tejwani, M.D.

Indurani Tejwani, MD, is an obstetrician-gynecologist whose more than 50-year career has combined clinical excellence, medical education, and sustained service to Memphis’ most vulnerable patients. After moving to the United States in 1968, Dr. Tejwani completed her training and board certification in obstetrics and gynecology in Memphis, where she built a long-standing private practice while also serving on staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital and St. Francis Hospital.

Over the course of her career, Dr. Tejwani delivered thousands of babies and earned a reputation for exceptional diagnostic skill, thoughtful clinical judgment, and deeply patient-centered care. Her work in women’s health emphasized preventive care, chronic disease management, and continuity across generations.

Dr. Tejwani was equally committed to teaching and mentorship. She trained residents, medical students, and early-career physicians, and she continues to mentor aspiring clinicians through her volunteer work at Church Health, where she supports clinical assistants preparing for medical school. Even in retirement, she remains an active volunteer, reflecting a lifelong commitment to service.

Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Tejwani has been a leader within the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and a founding member of the Women’s Foundation of Greater Memphis and the Indian Community Fund of Greater Memphis. Her work helped advance cultural competence, inclusion, and community engagement within the Memphis medical community. Dr. Tejwani’s career reflects technical excellence, humility, mentorship, and service rooted in compassion.
