Claudette Shephard, MD, is the Mid-South’s only fellowship-trained pediatric and adolescent gynecologist, serving the region for more than three decades through clinical leadership, education, and care for pediatric and adolescent patients.
Dr. Shephard is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Medicine, where she has held numerous leadership roles, including 15 years as residency program director, interim department chair, and associate dean of access and engagement. She currently serves as associate dean and remains actively engaged in clinical care, education, and institutional leadership. She is also division chief of pediatric and adolescent gynecology at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and regularly staffs high-risk labor and delivery services, including day and night shifts.
A respected educator and mentor, Dr. Shephard has trained and inspired generations of physicians, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds. Her influence extends through service with the Bluff City Medical Society, leadership roles at LeMoyne-Owen College, and longstanding volunteer service with the Shelby County Crime Victims & Rape Crisis Center.
Dr. Shephard’s contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the Memphis Business Journal’s Health Care Hero Award and the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Excellence in Teaching Award. A proud and longtime member of the Memphis Medical Society, she exemplifies physician leadership grounded in humility, service, and an enduring commitment to community care.
