As the Memphis Medical Society (MMS) approaches its milestone 150th anniversary, the organization is proud to unveil a new tradition: the Memphis Medical Society Hall of Fame.
For a century and a half, MMS has stood alongside the physicians of Memphis and Shelby County—supporting their practices, championing their voices, and advancing the health of the community. Now, as part of the 150th celebration, the Society will formally recognize the physicians whose impact extends far beyond the exam room.
The MMS Hall of Fame will honor those who have not only cared for patients with skill and compassion, but also shaped Memphis through advocacy, education, leadership, and innovation. These honorees will reflect the diverse ways physicians improve lives: from pioneering clinical breakthroughs, to standing at the front lines of public health, to serving as tireless advocates for the profession.
The inaugural honorees were selected by a group of physician peers and will be announced in February 2026. The first group of inductees will be celebrated publicly at the Physicians’ Gala on April 25, 2026, a centerpiece event of MMS’s anniversary year at the Memphis Botanic Garden.
“This Hall of Fame is a tribute to the legacy of Memphis medicine,” said MMS President, Dr. Jim Beaty. “Our city is home to extraordinary physicians whose work has shaped generations. With this new tradition, we ensure their contributions are remembered and celebrated for years to come.”
The Memphis Medical Society invites members and colleagues to participate in the nomination process and help tell the story of medicine’s profound role in Memphis. Nominations are simple and endure, even if the nominee is not selected immediately. While we prepare to celebrate this year’s inaugural group, nominations are open for 2027 and beyond. To nominate your colleague, please visit the nomination form here.
